About the Project
For the past few years at Barcoding, Inc., we have celebrated the barcode on June 26th (during 2020, we celebrated #SupplyChainGeekDay). In 2021, we decided to do something even BIGGER. We wanted everyone across the world to celebrate the barcode’s birthday. Our VP of Marketing & Strategic Partnerships, Jody Costa, came up with the amazing idea of creating our own national day. National Barcode Day is now celebrated on June 26th.
Beyond National Barcode Day, we celebrated innovation all month long (Celebration of Innovation) with live events and office celebrations. We celebrated the barcode and all the people who continue to push the edge of mobile data capture.
About National Barcode Day
National Barcode Day commemorates more than 40 years of efficiency and accuracy that began on June 26, 1974, when a clerk scanned a 10-pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, OH. On that day, the barcode system invented by George Lauer, an IBM engineer, began to change the world.

About the Campaign & Assets
The #NationalBarcodeDay and #Innovation campaign was multifaced—promotional efforts focused on digital strategies (integrated social and email marketing). The social campaign was one of our biggest campaigns yet with over 150 posts (plus 1,000 interactions, 500+ clicks, and 35,000 impressions). Some of the fun campaign assets we created were zoom/teams backgrounds & wallpapers, gifs, t-shirts, stickers, and email signature images.
The wallpapers, stickers, and t-shirt designs were inspired by the first product that had its barcode scanned—a pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum.
Thanks to the National Day Calendar, and our founding partners Datalogic and ScanSource, National Barcode Day is now official! Save the date for Sunday, June 26, 2022, for national barcode day!
